Seddon Cricket Club vs Mt Maunganui High 1st XI
-
On Monday 6th of November 2023, Seddon Cricket Club hosted Mount Maunganui College in a Day/Night fixture at Seddon Park, Hamilton.
Seddon Cricket Club will invite 5 secondary schools to play us at Seddon Park during this season. The purpose of these games is to boost the appeal of cricket within those schools and to reward schools that put genuine time and energy into their cricket programmes.
Through the passion and desire of Matt Golding, Mount Maunganui College has grown its cricket programme significantly over the last three years. All of their players arrived at Seddon Park in their full number ones, wore brilliant playing whites and were an absolute credit to their school. Their attitude and respect for the game was superb.
As far as the match was concerned Mount Maunganui College was too good for Seddon Cricket Club who were featuring ex-New Zealand Internationals Rob Hart and Matthew Hart.
MMC batted first and scored a competitive 195 for 8 in 35 overs. Harry Burns scored a belligerent 77 in their total. Matthew Hart showed that he had lost none of his class and was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 13 off 5 overs. Another note that must be mentioned is the speed of wicketkeeper Rob Hart down the leg side as he kept up to basically all our seamers! It was a real clinic behind the stumps from Rob.
The Seddon Cricket Club innings never got going and were always behind the run rate. Ryan Preston scored a well-compiled 52 not out but apart from that the batters didn’t really get going and eventually were bowled out for 170.
A massive thank you to Karl Johnson and his staff at Seddon Park. It’s amazing how many community games get played at Seddon Park during the summer.
Thank you to the umpires Greg Pennell and Greg Peters. You both did a fantastic job.
Thank you to Gatorade for providing the refreshments for all the players and officials.
