  • QUEENSTOWN CRICKET CARNIVAL 2024 - REPORT

Before we start the report by our Manager Esther Williams the club would like to say a SPECIAL THANKS to Carnival Organiser Russell Mawhinney (ND Cap # 132) for inviting Seddon Cricket Club.

Also, thanks to Paladin Sports for once again supplying outstanding apparel. They really are the leading outfitting provider for cricket teams in NZ. Richard Kane

Thanks to Gatorade New Zealand for sponsoring the replacement fluid powder.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ESTHER WILLIAMS! An incredibly talented Team Manager that ran a very tight ship. Incredible to have Esther involved with our club.

    Here’s Esther’s official report:

Last week an U18 Secondary School Invitational side became the first team to represent Seddon Cricket Club at the Queenstown Cricket Carnival.

During the year all players fundraised 2k each which covered all their costs from flights, accomodation, meals, apparel and general expenses.

Aged from 16-18 years these young men represented the values of the club with pride, enthusiasm and some fine cricketing skills.

Tom Sulzberger and Richie Gemmel provided daily pitch reports, and the Seddon Stone was presented at the end of each game to the most valuable player.

On Day One of the Carnival the team won both their T20 matches against Timaru Boys High School and Whakatipu.

Kieran McClintock and Tom Sulzberger represented Seddon Cricket Club in the All Stars Game, where Kieran was presented the ‘Steady the Ship Cap’ as most valuable player.

On Day Two the team were introduced to 110 overs Declaration Cricket. The team showed great intent by declaring early in their game against John MacGlashan College. This allowed for some really exciting cricket as the team came close to bowling out the opposition twice. The highlight of this game was Ivan Reid’s 5 wicket bag.

On Day Three the second declaration game against St Bedes also ended in a draw, Jerome Robinson’s 91 ensuring we got first innings points.

On Day Four the final 40 over game against Taiere College was reduced to a 25 over game due to the untimely sprinklers at Jacks Point!. George Williams took 5/9 off his 3.5 overs to ensure the team ended with a win and second overall in the tournament.

Awards were presented to Riley Parkinson and Flynn Warren for their fine catches and fielding. Batter of the tournament went to Jerome Robinson (122 runs despite not batting in the T20s), and bowler of the tournament to George Williams (13 wickets, 2nd highest wicket taker in the tournament).

A huge thank you to Llorne Howell (ND Cap #201) and Hayden Robinson, their coaching and mentoring of the team was outstanding and much appreciated. Thank you also to Jason Williams who assisted with managing the team, and all the other friends and family who came down to Queenstown to support.

Most importantly, thank you to this team of young men. They represented the club and themselves superbly and have set the bar high for future teams playing in the Queenstown Cricket Carnival. They exemplified the Seddon values in every aspect on and off the pitch, and made new friendships along the way. The positive cricket they played was an added bonus and pleasure to watch.

Thanks to Seddon Cricket for the opportunity!
