Seddon Cricket Club vs Cobham Cricket Club - Cobham Oval
-
Seddon Cricket Club had the pleasure of playing at Cobham Oval yesterday against the Cobham Cricket Club.
The Cobham Cricket Club is a Kindred Cricket club that is based in Whangarei, Northland. It was established in 1973 and its purpose, like many kindred cricket clubs, is to help foster the growth and development of youth cricket.
Northland Cricket has a very proud and rich history. They dominated provincial cricket for many years during the 80’s, 90 and early 2000’s. Names such as Cunis, Anderson, Yovich, Marshall, Parlane, Child, Southee, Nash have all come through the Northland pathway. It was a fantastic day, and we were well hosted by Brett Robinson and his Cobham Cricket Club support crew.
There’s something special about playing at a ground that respects the history of the game. It was amazing to read, gaze and take photos of some of the special memorabilia that Cobham Oval displays.
For the record Cobham Cricket Club was far too good for the Seddon Cricket Club. The Cobham team was filled with past Northland players that included Dion Nash, James Marshall and Joey Yovich. Dion Nash showed he has lost not too much of his pace and certainly none of his competitiveness!
Seddon Cricket Club, ourselves, had a couple a couple of Northland stalwarts play for us – Andrew Golightly and Derren Witcombe. Also, a big thank you to new club member and former Black Cap Reece Young for making his debut.
Well done Cobham Cricket Cub. Thanks for the memorable day. See you next season.
Photos by Margot Butcher. Thank you so much for your support, you have captured the day superbly.
